At about 2 p.m. on December 18, the school received an anonymous phone call, indicating that there were explosives inside the school and that a shooter was coming to the site. After consulting with BSD Public Safety, the school went into lockdown. Youth Services Officers (YSOs) from the Beaverton Police Department and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office arrived on the scene within minutes of the lockdown being initiated. Law enforcement then determined that the safest next step was to evacuate the school to the football field and begin a controlled release.

We understand how worrisome a situation like this can be. We also understand the frustration that can be felt when the situation is constantly evolving, and information is changing. As a district, we do our very best to plan for these types of events, but the reality is — each event is different and poses different challenges in the moment. We're constantly evaluating our plans and procedures. In the coming days, we’ll be reviewing this incident and taking lessons learned to further improve.
