The Beaverton School Board is currently reviewing a proposal submitted by the staff at McKay Elementary School (7485 SW Scholls Ferry Rd.) to close the school at the end of the 2025-2026 school year.

McKay is currently the smallest elementary school in our district and is continuing to get smaller. This recommendation from the school staff seeks to ensure students have access to robust educational resources and stable staffing amidst the district’s declining student enrollment.

Next Steps

The School Board will formally consider this proposal at its upcoming business meeting:

  • Tuesday, March 10 | 7:00 p.m. | District Administrative Office, 1260 NW Waterhouse Ave.
  • The meeting will be livestreamed on the district’s YouTube channel.

If the board decides to close McKay, it would be consolidated with neighboring schools. Students would be reassigned to Greenway Elementary or Raleigh Hills Elementary depending on where they live. Staff would move to those schools or to other positions in the district.

The district would maintain possession of the school building. After addressing any essential deferred maintenance or seismic stability issues, the building may be repurposed to house other district programs.
