10-27-22 BHS Neighborhood Meeting

3 November 2022

What happened during Beaverton High School’s community meeting last night? Below, you’ll find a recap.

What was the meeting about?

The meeting was part of the Neighborhood Land Use process. BSD works with the city of Beaverton to address site and building design issues.

Where is the district in the process?

BSD is currently in the site and building design phase. At the meeting, community members had a chance to see site plans and floor plans and ask questions about the project.

What concepts are being considered for the building?

The design team plans to reflect the urban context of the area while honoring the rich history and current diversity of Beaverton High School.

How has BSD worked with the community for this project?

The District has organized a wide variety of virtual and in-person meetings to gain feedback from staff, students, community members and parents of various backgrounds and experiences.

Where will students attend school during construction?

Students will remain on site in the current high school during construction.

What is the construction timeline?

The construction will start in summer 2024, and the new building will be completed by fall 2026. The parking lot and field work will be completed by fall 2027.

How is the rebuild of Beaverton High School being funded?

The rebuild is being funded through the 2022 Bond. The project will replace the existing academic buildings, except for the cafeteria. Select athletic buildings will remain or be renovated, including the football concessions building, football stadium and the baseball/softball dugouts/grandstands.

Once rebuilt, the overall campus will hold an initial capacity of 1,500 students with an option for a future addition to increase capacity to 2,200 students.

What are the next steps?

The plan is to move into more detailed phases of design and begin the land use process with the city. The Land Use process runs from about January to May 2023. The city of Beaverton’s Planning Commission will review, and a public hearing will be held where community members can participate.

As for the overall project, the plan is to bring a contractor on board for schedule, budget and logistics input.
